Why Visit
The Ourika Valley cuts into the High Atlas Mountains south of Marrakech, following a river lined with Berber villages, terraced fields, and roadside stalls selling local produce and argan oil. It’s one of the most popular day trips from Marrakech precisely because the change of scenery is so immediate — red-earth foothills give way to green terraces and running water within a short drive.
What to Expect
- Distance: Roughly 30 km (about 45–60 minutes) south of Marrakech.
- Villages: The valley road passes a string of small Berber villages built into the hillside.
- Setti Fatma waterfalls: At the valley’s upper end, a series of waterfalls is reachable via a walking trail of varying difficulty — many visitors go partway to the first fall or two.
- Pace: Typically a half-day excursion; easy to combine with lunch at a valley restaurant.
